Every year in our community, a local organization called Safe Passage organizes an event called the Hot Chocolate Run. The streets of downtown Northampton, MA close for the morning, and more than 5,000 people take to the streets to run or walk in support of victims of domestic violence.
“Safe Passage is committed to ending domestic violence and oppression in women’s lives. All Safe Passage programs are free, accessible and confidential. Our comprehensive services include shelter, peer-support, counseling, education, advocacy, legal support and community education.” –www.safepass.org
From people dressed in crazy team costumes, to drummers on the sidewalks cheering the participants on; the experience was a true display of what an amazing community we are lucky to be a part of.
What do you do to give back to your community? Are there community events similar to our Hot Chocolate Race in your home town?
